Who we are
Sussan Cordero is member of the Directors Guild of America as an Assistant Director who hails from the New York/New Jersey Area. Sussan has worked in the film industry since 2010 and has been in the DGA since 2016.
Within the DGA, Sussan has held the elected official position of Co-Chair for the Eastern Diversity Steering Committee. The EDCS represents the concerns of the Guild members of African, Asian, Native American, Arab-Middle Easter, and Latino descent. This committee's main objective is to improve the employment opportunities and working conditions and skills of ethnically diverse Guild members.
Sussan, alongside of her two other Co-Chair team, represented the east coast of DGA members who identified themself from any of those minority groups. The committee highlights diverse members of the DGA with spotlight panel discussions, open forums and creating Networking opportunities not easily found within the industry and guild to help unify members and enhance visibility to work and partner together on present and future projects.
Sussan was also a founder of the Committee of Co-Chairs. This Committee of Co-Chairs (CJC)brings together representatives from various diversity-focused committees to collaborate on increasing inclusion within the industry.
Aside from this, Sussan is also a founding member of The New York Film & Television for Diversity & Inclusion Task Force created in 2020. New York Film & Television for Diversity & Inclusion (NYFTDI, pronounced “nifty") is a task force made up of Film and TV professionals in the New York and New Jersey area who are committed to addressing and changing the lack of diversity, equity and inclusion in our industry.
This organization assists with creating pathways for economic empowerment for all marginalized groups. This group engages with entertainment industry decision makers including hiring managers at Networks, Studios, Unions, Production Companies & Producers to address and dismantle implicit bias, racial inequality and inequity in the workplace.
Additionally, Sussan has worked as an Instructor & DGA representative presenter for the Main In NY Program throughout the years. . The “Made in NY” Production Assistant Training Program helps low-income New York City residents get their foot in the door of the dynamic world of film and television.
Along with this extensive film background, Sussan has also worked within the Passaic School district when available within the last 15yrs. This connection has allowed Sussan to present at Career week for multiple years to educate students of how the film industry works and how they might one day become a part of the film industry if they so choose to.
It is because of Sussan's extensive skills and background with working with students and film professionals that she felt compelled to create the Reel Futures NJ program with its multi level programing of Film Workforce initiative, Afterschool Film programs and Bootcamp initiatives for members of the film industry who are looking to grow and elevate from their entry level positions.
